Introduction
The Department of Bengali was established with I.A. Course in 1931 under the University of Calcutta. Professor Sudhir Chattopadhyay was the First Head of the Department. B.A. (General Course) in Bengali was introduced in 1947. B.A. Was started in the year 1953. Finally, P.G. course in Bengali was established in 2006. As of now, the courses offered are Undergraduate [General (6 semesters) & Honours (6 semesters)] and Postgraduate (4 semesters) in Bengali under the Burdwan University, according to the CBCS system. The Department reminiscences with great pleasure that the Bengali poet-Nobel-Laureate Rabindranath Tagore visited the college campus in 1937 to inaugurate the 20th Bengali literary conference where another Bengali thinker and philosopher Hirendranath Datta was also present as the President of the conference.
