Introduction
The Department of Geography was initiated in 1953 when Sri Kamakhya Charan Bhattacharya (M.Sc., B.T.) joined as
the founder head. In 1954 the Govt. of West Bengal took over its full responsibility and since then it has been running as
one of the oldest colleges of our country. In 1961, it was relocated under the jurisdiction of the University of Burdwan and the Geography (Hons.) course was introduced with Six (6) Lecturers/ Asst. Professors and a demonstrator in 1965. In
1982, the department was shifted in the third floor of the new building and P.G. Course was introduced from 2001.
Currently the teaching faculty comprises Two (2) Associate Professors and Five (5) Assistant Professors. The department
has a rich variety of learning ?teaching resources consisting of seminar library, two computer laboratories, one conference hall, soil laboratory, cartography laboratory including modern surveying equipments like Total Station and GPS. The
department teaches two special papers in Post Grad
