Introduction
The origin of Chandernagore College dates back to the establishment of ?cole de Sainte Marie in 1862 by the French Jesuit Missionary Father Magloire Barthet. French is being taught since the very first day of the establishment of this institution, which was run by the Jesuit missionaries. It was placed under the responsibility of the French Government on the 15th of December 1887. It was later on named ?cole Publique des Gar?ons. In 1901, it changed its name to Coll?ge Dupleix. The participation of Shree Charu Chandra Roy, Deputy Director of the College, and of his friends
in the freedom movement led to the closing of the College in 1908. The trial against Shree Charu Chandra Roy was not tenable. He therefore led another popular movement to re-establish Coll?ge Dupleix and his efforts were crowned with success. On the 4th of July, 1931, Coll?ge Dupleix was re-established. On the 2nd of June, 1938, by the order of the Governor of French India, Coll?ge Dupleix came under the control of
