Introduction
The department has passed through a progressive journey since its inception. Under the able stewardship of Dr. Biswanath Mitra the department made its maiden voyage as Biology Department offering Intermediate Course, under the Calcutta University in 1953. It was upgraded to a Degree Level (General) course under Burdwan University in 1986. Through the tedious and tenacious efforts by Dr. Ajoy Kumar Ray, the then Head of Department of Zoology of this College, the department was further upgraded to Honours Level in Zoology during the academic session 1994- 95.
