Introduction
The Department of Sociology, at Chandernagore College, began its journey in 2008. It became the first Department to
offer Honours and General courses in Sociology in any government college under the aegis of Burdwan University. The
journey of the Department began with Smt. Bhaswati Ghosh joining Chandernagore College and taking charge as the
founding Head of the Department. Dr. Roddur De and Dr. Debasraba Chattopadhyay eventually joined the Department and took up the responsibility of supporting the Department through its nascent years. Dr. Santi Lata Biswas, one of the senior sociologists of West Bengal, joined the department in 2013. Apart from an expanding and promising faculty, the number of enrolled students in the Department has increased over the years. Presently, the Department is a proud possessor of a good collection of books on Sociology, which are located in the college library. There is also a full volume of ?International
